WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- In a matchup of two top 20 nationally ranked women's lacrosse teams, Union posted a 17-5 victory over Colby Tuesday. The Dutchwomen, 3-0, are off to their best start since 2001. Union entered the game ranked #11 in this week's IWLCA Division III poll, while Colby was ranked 13th and is 3-2.
It is the second win over a ranked team this week, as Union defeated Williams in Florida, and the Ephs showed up #17 this week.
Freshman Kristin Joyce (Longmeadow, MA) scored four goals and senior Keri Messa (Saratoga Springs, NY) also scored four to lead the Dutchwomen. Chelsea Charette (South Hadley, MA) and Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) scored twice for the Dutchwomen. Union got single scores from Allie Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA), Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA), Emily Bryson (Charlestown, MA), Steph Egizi (Westwood, MA) and Liz Zamore (South Hero, VT).
Sophomore goaltender Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA) had eight saves in the Union net.
Union jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 4:04 of the game, with three tallies coming on free position opportunities. The Dutchwomen had a 9-2 lead at halftime.
The Dutchwomen open up Liberty League play this week at home. Union hosts Clarkson Friday at 4 p.m. and St. Lawrence Saturday at 2 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
