Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Second half spurs Dutchmen past Skidmore, 9-5

SCHENECTADY, N.Y – The Union College men's lacrosse team scored five second-half goals including four unanswered tallies that spurred the Dutchmen to a 9-5 win over Skidmore in Liberty League action at Frank Bailey Field Saturday evening. Freshman Brendan Kinnane (Little Compton, R.I.) was one of three Dutchmen with two goals on the day, and sparked Union's four-goal outburst to close out the team's eighth win on the season, the most since 2001. The Dutchmen stand at 2-1 in Liberty League play.

Tom Simmons (Salisbury, Conn.) and Jon Miller (Yarmouth, Maine) also scored twice for Union, while Tom Levesque and Rob Lutin each netted a pair of goals for Skidmore (7-4, 2-2 Liberty).

Special teams played a big factor early in the game as the Thoroughbreds took a 3-2 lead with under three minutes left in the first quarter after netting their second man-up tally in as many chances. Union had been successful in its first attempt, courtesy of Miller, and with one second remaining in the first quarter evened the score on Chris Collison's (Trumbull, Conn.) 15th goal of the season.

Simmons recorded the only score of the second quarter to give Union a 4-3 lead at the half, and after Skidmore's Tom Levesque evened the score 31 seconds into the third quarter, Simmons gave the Dutchmen the lead again less than two minutes later.

Matt Levesque tied the game one last time before the Dutchmen broke it open, sparked by Kinnane's tally with 7:55 remaining in the third quarter. Jon Miller followed with an unassisted tally after forcing a turnover before Chris Jacobson (Northborough, Mass.) opened the final quarter with his fifth goal of the season. Kinnane capped the scoring with just over four minutes left to play.

Christopher Keinath (Wilbraham, Mass.) made 13 saves in his seventh win of the season, while John Capitani took the loss for Skidmore with eight saves. Vivek Huded allowed one goal in relief while Capitani served a slashing penalty.

Union continues Liberty League action Wednesday in a 7 p.m. home game against Vassar (3-9, 0-4). Skidmore travels to Middlebury for a 4:30 p.m. game Wednesday.
