SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Freshman Chelsea Charette (South Hadley, MA) scored five goals and Emily Bryson (Charlestown, MA) and Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) scored three each to lead Union to a 21-10 women's lacrosse win at Skidmore Friday night.
The Dutchwomen are now 9-2 overall and 6-1 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore fell to 2-12 and 0-7 in the league. Union moved into second place over William Smith (4-1), which lost to 5-0 Hamilton Friday.
Jill LaForest (Acton, MA), Casey Dianni and Erin Lawson (Flourtown, PA) tallied twice each for the Dutchwomen in the triumph that was a make up of the game postponed from April 1. Keri Messa (Saratoga Springs, NY) had two assists, giving her 29 on the season to leave her two shy of breaking the single season record of 30.
Kimberly Segalas led the Thoroughbreds with three goals and an assist and Claire Molloy and Amber Kinsey scored twice each. Melissa McDonald (Lynnfield, MA) stopped seven shots in the Union net and Courtney DeStefano stopped 11 on the night.
The Dutchwomen had a 13-6 lead at the half, and jumped out to a 4-1 lead in less then 10 minutes. The Dutchwomen scored the first four goals of the second stanza in the first 6:50 of the half, featuring two free position goals, for a 17-6 lead. Union outshot the hosts, 38-18, had a 25-13 ground ball advantage and made five of nine free position opportunities.
Union hosts St. John Fisher Sunday at Frank Bailey Field at 1 p.m. It will be the last regular season home game for a senior class that has a current record of 45-16 entering Sunday's game.
