ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore forward
Katie McLean (Stratham, NH) produced two goals to guide the No. 11 Union women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory on Sunday at St. John Fisher. The goals were McLean's first and second of the season and 14th and 15th of her young career. With the victory Union improves to 4-1-0, while St. John Fisher goes to 1-4-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT), making her second consecutive start, turned aside four shots for her first career shutout. She improves her record to 1-1-0.
McLean gave the Dutchwomen a 1-0 lead heading into the half when she cashed in at 34:12 from a pass from junior midfielder
Allison Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA).
At the 48:38, McLean tallied her second goal, which was set up by freshman forward
Jessica Strang (Rotterdam, NY). Strang maneuvered around the St. John Fisher defense and goalkeeper Ashley Martin before dishing to McLean for a wide-open shot.
With the momentum on their side, the Dutchwomen kept the pressure on and Cuozzo found the back of the net for her team-high third goal of the season. The goal came at 54:02 and was set up by sophomore midfielder
Caitlin O'Donnell (Hampden, MA).
Union had seven corners compared to St. John Fisher's two and outshot the Cardinals, 21-11.
Next up, the Dutchwomen return home on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. match against Cortland.
