LAKE PLACID, NY -- After going 3-1 in the Liberty League Preview Tournament, the Union volleyball team stands 16-1. Saturday's final day of the tourney featured wins over Clarkson and Skidmore. Union swept Clarkson, with all three games featuring an identical score of 25-22. The Dutchwomen closed out the tourney with a 3-1 win over Skidmore, victorious by scores of 25-22, 15-25, 26-24 and 25-18.
Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY) had nine kills and six blocks in the win over Clarkson, and Veronica Mynders (Greenville, NY) had 18 digs in the win. Eve Richards (Schenectady, NY) had 12 kills and Jennifer Merinder (Andover, MA) added 30 assists.
Ormsby wrapped up the tourney with 16 digs and 14 kills against Skidmore, and also posted five blocks. Julie LaSpina (Roslyn Heights, NY) had 15 kills and Richards had nine kills. Merinder posted 43 digs and Erika VanValkenburg (Baldwinsville, NY) finished with 23 digs. The win over Skidmore was the second for Union this season. The Thoroughbreds represeted the Liberty League in the NCAA Championships last season.
The All-Tournament team included Union players Merinder and Richards.
Union will compete at Middlebury Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
