CLINTON, NY -- Ephraim McDowell came off the bench to score a season-high 23 points and went 7-for-11 from three-point land and Hamilton went on to a 72-56 Liberty League win over visiting Union College at Scott Field House on Jan. 23. Hamilton sits alone atop the Liberty League with a 4-0 record.
Jay Simpson scored the Continentals' first basket of the game and Kyle Dumas drained a three-pointer for a 5-0 lead just 1:08 into play. Hamilton (10-4 overall) extended its lead to 10 points at 14-4 on McDowell's first three-pointer of the game.
Union (9-5 overall, 2-2 Liberty) managed to cut the lead to five two times in the remainder of the first half. McDowell drained a three on each of those occassions to keep momentum away from the visitors. Hamilton took a 35-26 lead into the break.
The hosts went on an 18-7 run in the opening minutes of the second half to take a commanding 53-33 lead with 14:07 on the clock. The run featured ten points from Patrick Sullivan, including back-to-back three-pointers. The forward connected on two of his three attempts from deep, and finished with 16 points. Hamilton finished the game 12 of 25 from three point land (48 percent).
Hamilton held a double-digit lead the remainder of the game, and its largest lead was 23 points.
Drew Desmarais led the Dutchmen with 21 points, and made 10 of 14 shots from the floor. Henry Stevens had a career high nine rebounds off the bench, and Brett Tessler added eight points.
Jon Ciriello provided a solid seven points, six rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals. Harlee Wood '09 finished with a game-high ten rebounds.
