Dutchwomen go to 5-1 in Liberty League with 55-37 win over Vassar

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Lauren McCormick scored 12 points and Leah Pepe had career bests of 11 points and seven rebounds as Union improved to 5-1 in the Liberty League with a 55-37 women's basketball win over Vassar Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchwomen are now 11-5 overall while the Brewers fell to 0-6 in the league and 3-13 overall.

Union's Maria Tobin pulled down 10 rebounds, as did Vassar's Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME), who had the double double with her game high 16 points. Brittany Parks (Escondido, CA) scored 15 points and Haeuser added five steals for Vassar. Selin Whitham dished out five assists for the Dutchwomen.

With the game tied at 4-4, the Dutchwomen went on a 19-0 run in 9:46 for a 23-4 lead on a three pointer by Tobin. Union led by as many as 23 in the first half, with a 33-10 advantage with 2:45 left in the first, and took a 37-16 lead into the halftime. Vassar got as close as 13 in the second half, trailing 41-28 with 13:20 remaining, but the Dutchwomen then went on a 14-5 run for a 55-33 advantage with 2:11 remaining.

The Dutchwomen shot 35% for teh game and was outrebounded 20-17, but forced 19 turnovers while only recording seven. The Brewers shot 30% for the contest, and both teams shot 30% from three point territory.

Union will host RPI tomorrow at 2 p.m., and the Red Hawks enter the game tied with Union and St. Lawrence atop the league with the 5-1 marks. Vassar is at Skidmore Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
