SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore forward
Jessica Strang had a team-high two goals, leading Union to a 4-2 win against non-conference foe SUNY Fredonia on Saturday. The win was Union's fourth straight, improving its record to 7-3-0, while Fredonia goes to 6-4-1.
Strang wasted no time posting her fifth and sixth goals of the season. She broke the scoreless tie 4:35 into the game when sophomore midfielder
Judy Horan sent a through-ball into the box, allowing Strang to chip one into the back of the net.
Moments later, senior forward
Bianca Germain dribbled down the right side and sent a cross into the box, finding Strang's foot at 6:03.
Junior forward
Katie McLean made it 3-0 with a well placed shot from the right end line. The ball sailed over the head of Blue Devil goalkeeper Meaghan Meszaros, off the left post and over the goal line. The marker tied McLean and Strang with a team-leading six goals.
The Blue Devils rallied a comeback at the end of the first and the start of the second. Sophomore forward Reilly Condidorio posted her sixth of the season at 36:37 and sophomore midfielder Melissa Cummiskey made it 3-2 at 46:33 with her fifth of the year.
An own goal by Fredonia at 76:07 made it 4-2, securing the Union victory.
Meszaros made 10 saves as Union outshot Fredonia 24-3.
The Dutchwomen return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 with a 7 p.m. match against Hartwick.
