Freshman forward
Rhianna Kurio scored her first career goal right at the start of the game but the Union College women's ice hockey team was downed by Princeton 6-3 on Sunday.
Sophomore defenseman Dania Simmonds opened the game by helping Kurio put Union on the board first in 16 seconds. While it was Kurio's first career goal, it was also Simmonds first assist on the season.
However, Princeton tied the game 3:31 into the first period when Laura Martindale found the back of the net with help from Paula Romanchuk.
The Tigers added two more goals early in the second period when Romanchuck scored twice in the first six minutes of the second period.
Union did start a rally later in the period. Less than six minutes into the second period, sophomore forward Lauren Cromartie scored her first goal on the season with help from Kurio and sophomore defenseman Kayleigh Melia, who notched her first career assist.
Sophomore forward Émilie Arseneault tied the game 9:19 into the second period. Sophomore forward Lauren Hoffman was credited with the assist. The goal was Arseneault's third goal and Hoffman's fifth assist on the season.
Princeton took the lead 13:37 into the second period when Danielle DiCesare beat freshman goaltender Alana Marcinko.
Marcinko made 32 saves, 15 of those saves were in the second period.
The Dutchwomen will now begin a four-game homestand starting on Nov. 6 against Cornell. Faceoff is at 3 p.m.
