SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- Five different players scored one goal each and Katie Potter had a goal and two assists, as Skidmore defeated Union, 5-0 in a Liberty League Semifinal Playoff Game Wednesday afternoon at Throughbred Field. The top seed Thoroughbreds, who are now 15-3, advanced to host Saturday's Championship Game while Union ends the season with a 10-8 record.
Skidmore outshot Union, 21-10 and led 2-0 at halftime. The Skidmore victory ended Union's five game winning streak. The Thoroughbreds also had a 16-10 advantage in corners. Union goalkeeper
Sarah Rios made seven saves in net while Liz Catinella stopped five in over 65 minutes. Margaux Hoagland came in for action for the final 4:32 and did not make a stop.
Katie Potter opened the scoring just 3:06 into the contest with her fifth of the year. She took a pass from Jackie Slocombe for the home lead. But it remained a one goal game for over twenty minutes. At 20:16, Elise Britt scored her 18th of the year from Potter. Britt converted when Rios came out to cut down the angle, but Britt scored low inside the right post. It remained 2-0 at the half.
With 2:26 elapsed in the second half, Skidmore's Brittany O'Brien scored her 13th of the year. Lauren McCarthy set her up for the 3-0 lead. The hosts added insurance at 43:19 as Christine Kemp notched #18. Kemp, who had a game high six shots, and five on net, scored on a penalty stroke. The Thoroughbreds closed out the scoring with 18:06 remaining in regulation. Lauren Tobias scored her first of the year with an assist from Potter.
Union's final record of 10-8 produced the fifth straight double digit win total for the program. The game also marked the final contest for seniors
