GENEVA, NY – Ninth-ranked William Smith (12-3-2) used two first-half goals to earn a 2-0 victory against the Union College women's soccer team in the Liberty League semi-final game Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchwomen, who are now 11-7-0, wait to see if they will receive one of 21 at-large bids to participate in the 63-team NCAA Tournament. The Herons wasted no time, scoring 1:27 into the game when junior forward BreLynn Nasypany sent a cross to freshman forward Whitney Frary, who lofted a shot from 20 yards out over junior goaltender

Nasypany had a hand on her team's second goal at 31:14. She found sophomore forward Kate Redmond in the box for a shot that found the upper-left third of the net.

Katie McLean had Union's best opportunity in the second half when she fired a shot from the left wing that just missed. The try was part of a charge by the Dutchwomen at the beginning of the second half that featured a shot by McLean only 19 seconds into the period and a try by senior midfielder

Senior forward
Bianca Germain took advantage of a Heron's defensive miscue when a defender fell down. Germain dripped free and fired a shot that struck the crossbar at 65:50. Senior midfielder
Katie Brown's rebound try sailed high.
Stohler, who made her 18th appearance this season, turned away six shots. For William Smith, sophomore Amanda Davis has six saves.
