MIDDLEBURY, VT -- Senior forward
Megan Clark scored a career high 15 points and
Rachel Titcomb added eight rebounds but the Union women's basketball team lost at Middlebury, 51-46 Saturday. The Panthers evened their record to 3-3 after the non-league win while the Dutchwomen fell to 0-3 on the young season.
Lauren McCormick scored 10 points, and made six of nine from the line for Union. The Dutchwomen forced 25 Middlebury turnovers but Union had 24 for the day.
Mary Donohue had a game best four assists for the Dutchwomen, who shot 80% (8 for 10) from the line.
Stephanie Surette scored 13 points and aAlana Wall had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Panthers. Middlebury shot 38% for the game and had a slight 34-32 rebounding advantage.
Union had a 26-25 lead at halftime, but the Panthers went on a 13-2 run in a span of 5:14 to open the second half. Surette had six points in that run. Union got to within one when Titcomb hit a three pointer with 7:40 left to make it 43-42 Panthers, and later tied it with two free throws by Titcomb with 2:14 left. But a layup by Kaitlyn Fallon and a jumper by Wall made it 49-45 for the hosts with 26 second remaining. Clark made a free throw with 11 seconds left, (49-46) but missed the second and after a foul, Leah Kepping hit both to wrap up the contest.
Union hosts Bridgewater State Tuesday night, December 8, at 6 p.m.
