McCormick, Clark lead Dutchwomen to 65-54 win

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior forward Lauren McCormick scored a career high 28 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, and senior forward Megan Clark also had a double double with a career best 15 rebounds and 11 points as the Union women's basketball team defeated Bridgewater State, 65-54 at the Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night.

Rachel Titcomb added 10 rebounds for the Dutchwomen, who won for the first time in four outings this season. Mary Donohue added nine points with three assists for the victors.

The Bears fell to 3-3 on the year. Sophomore forward Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) led the Bears with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Michaela Cosby (Walpole, MA) ahd eight rebounds and Corey Cuddihy (Scituate, MA) scored nine points. Union had a 45-43 rebounding edge and forced 21 turnovers.

McCormick's 28 points were the most by a Union women's basketball player since Michelle Rogers '09 scored 38 points in a home win over Williams on November 30, 2008. It was the third double double of McCormick's career and the first for Clark.

Clark's total of 15 rebounds was the most since Krystal Hammond '07 had 15 on February 12, 2007 vs. Clarkson. Hammond had 16 on January 21, 2006 at home against William Smith.

Union led 27-26 at halftime, after a first half that featured eight ties. The game was tied for the 10th time at 36-36 with 15:42 remaining in the second, but in the next seven minutes, Union went on a 15-8 run for a 51-44 lead after a layup by McCormick with 8:42 left. She had six of her 18 second half points in that run. Union's largest lead was 13 at 65-52 with 17 seconds to play.

McCormick, Clark and Titcomb wound up with 82% of Union's rebounds. The Dutchwomen made 70% of the second half free throw attempts and held the Bears to 17% shooting from three point territory in the second half (3-18).

Union wraps up the home season of the 2009 portion of the schedule with a 7 p.m. game against the University of Rochester Friday at 7 p.m. Bridgewater State plays at Endicott Friday at 6 p.m.
