WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Chelsea Charette and
Kristin Joyce scored three goals each as the #9 Union women's lacrosse team improved to 2-1 with a 17-6 non-league victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Wednesday. The game was played at a neutral site, Lake Lytal Park in West Palm Beach, FL.
Union also got two goals each from freshmen Chloe Schmitz and Lizzy Rosato and had one score each from
Melissa Hine,
Abby Stohler,
Jill LaForest,
Allie Cuozzo,
Hilary Salander and
Casey Dianni. The Dutchwomen jumped out to a 12-2 lead and the second half featured running time when Union had a 10 goal lead to start the half as well as periods during the half.
Cat Ruggiero made four saves in the first half and freshman
Alexis Deeb stopped four in the second half. Union won 18 of 23 draw controls, including 12 of 15 in the first half, and had a 25-19 shot advantage that included an 18-8 shot advantage during the big first half.
The Dutchwomen converted two of three free position shots and 10 of 15 clear attempts. Six different players scored for Eastern, while Kristianna Ibsen made six saves in all 60 minutes of play in the net.
The game was tied at 1-1 after goals by Union's Joyce at 24:30 and Courtney Bedocs of Eastern at 23:09. But Joyce snapped the tie for good at 22:37 to start a run of 11 straight goals during the first half.
Union plays another non-league road game Sunday at Williams.
