Andrew Higgins unloaded four goals and freshman
Ted McKenna netted two in the Union College men's lacrosse team's 8-7 loss at Williams on Tuesday. Higgins increased his point total to 22 points with a team-best 21 goals and McKenna, who also had an assist, moved his numbers to a team-high tying 22 points and 14 goals.
The Dutchmen go to 5-5 on the season, while Williams improves to 6-5.
Junior
Scott Garibaldi posted his eighth goal of the year, while sophomore
Brendan Kinnane registered a game-high three assists. Juniors
Nick Blanchard and
Peter Kennedy also had assists.
Senior goaltender Christopher Keniath made 17 stops, including six in the second and five in the third.
With Garibaldi's goal, assisted by Kinnane, at 11:28 of the first, Union jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but Williams' Richard Reuter pulled the score even 41 seconds later.
McKenna appeared to give Union a 2-1 first quarter lead with a goal with 1:13 remaining, but Matt Cranshaw made it 2-2 with one tick remaning.
Higgins and Kinnane connected in the second at 2:47, but Williams led at the half 4-2.
After falling behind 5-3, the Dutchmen answered with three goals – two from Higgins and one from McKenna during the last 5:26 of the third.
A three goal spurt by Williams game the home team a 8-6 advantage with less than 3:30 remaning and Higgins fourth tally (1:54) capped Union's scoring and produced the end result.
Williams held a 44-29 advantage and won the groundball battle, 48-34.
The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, April 18 at nationally ranked Clarkson at 4 p.m.
