SCHENECTADY, NY -- Kristin Joyce, this week's Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, scored four goals to lead the #15 Union women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 Liberty League win over Skidmore Tuesday night at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen, 5-2 overall, are now 3-0 in the league. The Thoroughbreds, 5-4 overall, are now 1-2 in the league.
Joyce scored all four of her goals in the first half as the Dutchwomen led 7-0 at halftime. She now has 22 goals on the season. Union also got three goals from
Chelsea Charette and two from
Allie Cuozzo.
Skidmore's Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, MA) and Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, CT) scored two goals each, as the Throughbreds came back from a 10-1 deficit. Skidmore scored four straight goals from 15:29 to 5:48 to pull to with five at 10-5, but Cuozzo regained the the six goal advantage at 11-5 with 5:23 remaining. Segalas' 27th of the year made it a five goal game again but with only 3:31 remaining.
Union goalkeeper
Cat Ruggiero made seven saves, five in the first half to keep Skidmore scoreless through the first 30 minutes. Courtney DeStefano (Rehoboth, MA) made nine saves, five in the second half during Skidmore's comeback.
The Dutchwomen had a 32-21 shot advantage and a slight ground ball advantage, 28-27. Skidmore won 13 of the 20 draw controls and Union, which converted nine of 10 clear attempts, forced 23 turnovers.
Union continues a busy week hosting #8 Middlebury Thursday at 4:15 p.m. It will be the second of three home games through Saturday. Skidmore plays at Rochester Friday.
