Box Score

CASTLETON, VT
- The Castleton State College field hockey team lost 2-1 to visiting Union College Tuesday evening at Spartan Stadium in non-conference action.

Union's Lizzy Moran broke a scoreless tie 15:44 into the first period, notching her third goal of the season. Moran received a pass off a Natalie Engel penalty corner, dribbled past a pair of Spartan defenders and beat Castleton goalie Siobhan Whittemore high to make it 1-0. Moran was a catalyst for the Union offense, firing off seven shots in the contest.

Courtney Nolan evened the score with less than four minutes remaining in the first half on a fine individual effort. Sarah Flore played a free hit to Nolan, who weaved her way through a trio of Dutchwomen and placed a shot just inside the far post for her fifth goal of the season.

Union's Kelsey Powers potted the game winner with 23:24 remaining in the contest, converting a Molly Osborn assist. Osborn received a pass on the right side of the circle, moved it to Powers, who hit a laser past Whittemore for her third goal of the season. For Powers, it was her fifth shot on goal.

Whittemore was very solid in net for the Spartans, turning away 13 shots in the losing effort. Equally important to the Dutchwomen effort was goalie Sarah Rios who stopped seven shots in the win.

Union improves to 5-3 with the win, and will host Middlebury College October 6 at 7:00 pm in non-conference action.
