SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A steal followed by a layup by Leah Pepe with 15 seconds left of the game delivered the Union College women's basketball team a 64-63 win over William Smith on a Saturday afternoon at Viniar Athletic Center.

The win moves Union to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League play while William Smith moves to 4-9 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Lauren McCormick led the Dutchwomen in both points and rebounds with 16 and nine, respectively. Lindsay Hage scored a season-high 11 points while Megan Clark and Pepe also had double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Trailing 63-62 followed after a layup by McCormick with less than 40 seconds left in the game, the Heron's kept the ball away from the Dutchwomen to end the game but a charged steal by Pepe followed by the layup gave Union the go-ahead two points.

Union opened the second half with a 39-35 led. William Smith's Julie Hooper scored four points in the first minute of the half to tie the game. Colleen Lukas sank a three-point shot to give the Heron's 48-45 lead.

Union did not let William Smith extend it's lead. Hage, Clark, McCormick and Shayla Madden kept Union within four points or less behind the Herons. Both teams tied the game seven times throughout the game.

William Smith opened the game with an 11-3 run in the span of 5:52. Kristen Kush put six points on the board during that span. With 13:52 left, Ashlinn Barber's free throw shot gave the Heron's a nine-point margin, the largest lead in the half.

However, McCormick led the Dutchwomen by putting six points from above the paint, giving them a 21-20 lead with 8:16 left. Union kept in front of the Heron's for the rest of the first half.

Union continues it's five-game homestand against St. Lawrence on Jan. 22. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
