Union falls to Princeton 3-0

Freshman forward Corey Stearns scored two goals and added an assist to lead Princeton to a 3-0 victory over Union Friday night at Messa Rink. The Tigers improved to 10-9-3 overall and 8-4-3 win ECAC Hockey, while the Dutchwomen are now 5-21-1 overall and 1-13-1 in the league.

Melanie Wallace also scored for the Tigers, and Princeton had a 41-16 shot advantage on the night. Alana Marcinko made 38 saves for the Dutchwomen while her counterpart, Rachel Weber, stopped 16 for the Tigers.

At 15:27 of the first period, Wallace scored on assists from Stearns and Danielle DiCesare. Stearns took a shot from the point that was stopped by Marcinko, but Wallace was there for the rebounds to tally her first of the season. The Tigers had a 19-10 shot advantage in the period.

Stearns notched her first of the night at 4:58 of the second stanza. Paula Romanchuk fed Stearns across in front of the net and the freshman's slap shot one timer made it 2-0. At 13:53, Stearns tipped in a drive from Maddie Endicott, in a goal that turned out to cap off the scoring for the night. The Tigers outshot the Dutchwomen, 11-2 in the second period.

In the third, Princeton outshot Union by a 11-5 margin.

The Dutchwomen host Quinnipiac Saturday at 4 p.m., while Princeton is at RPI Saturday at 4 p.m.
