NORTH ADAMS, MA --
The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts women's basketball returned to action on Wednesday night by defeating visiting Union College 65-49. With the win, the Trailblazers improve to 9-1 heading into MASCAC play. The loss drops Union to 2-8.

MCLA, returning from a 23 day layoff, held Union to 23% from the floor in the first half in building a 33-22 advantage. Senior forward Laura Silverman was strong in the opening frame collecting 8 points and 7 boards.

Union was paced by senior Megan Clark who finished a team high 19 points. Leah Pepe added 13 points, a new career high, and three assists, while Clark and Lauren McCormick each had six rebounds.

The second half saw the visitors quickly trim the lead to four on a layup by Lauren Hennessey with just over 14 minutes to play. MCLA responded by going on a quick 7-0 burst fueled by a key three pointer from senior Ali Leveille (Westhampton, MA) giving the hosts an 11 point lead at the 11:00 minute mark.

The two teams would go back and forth during the next six minutes of play with the Trailblazers holding onto a comfortable advantage. The Dutchwomen would get no closer than nine the rest of the way as MCLA salted the game away with another 7-0 run. Sophomore forward Jen Wehner scored all seven points in that run, including a three pointer to push the lead back into double digits.

Wehner finished the night with a game high 21 points and 12 rebounds. Silverman finished with a double double of her own, collecting 10 points and 10 boards and Lucy Tremblay tallied 17 points.

Union opens Liberty League play Tuesday night at home at 6 p.m. against Skidmore.
