POTSDAM, NY-- Craig Santangelo converted off a corner kick from Kevin Giron, knocking in a shot in tight at the near post during the 83rd minute for the only goal of the contest as Union College defeated Clarkson 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
Clarkson played a strong game against Union, out shooting the Dutchmen 9-7, including a 7-2 margin in the first half. Union, however, connected on its last shot of the game to pull out the victory.
After a slow start, the Dutchmen picked up their play over the final 45 minutes, out shooting the Green and Gold 5-2 in the second half. Union held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, with all of their chances coming in the second half.
Both Clarkson goalie Scott Stuart and Union's Adam Marguilies finished with three saves.
The Dutchmen, who stand at 8-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the conference, play at St. Lawrence on Saturday.
