Dutchwomen Fall to Friars

Aresenault scored the lone Union goal

PROVIDENCE, RI-  Emilie Arseneault scored a late third period goal but it was not enough as the Dutchwomen fell to host Providence 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Friars power-play unit struck 1:52 into the second as Ashley Cottrell sent a pass from the right point into the slot to Gauthier deposited her fourth of the season for the 1-0 Friar edge.

Providence extended the cushion to 2-0 at the 7:39 mark of the third period. With another power play expiring, junior Jen Friedman intercepted a clearing attempt at the right point. Friedman unloaded a slapshot that beat Dutchwomen goalie Kate Gallagher for her third goal of the year.

Union cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 10:45 mark of the third, when junior Kelly Alyea fought for possession in the left corner and fed classmate Emilie Arseneault. Arseneault responded with a wrist shot into the back of the net.
    
Union goaltender Gallagher stopped 29 shots in goal. Genevieve Lacasse made 17 saves to earn the victory for the Friars.
 
The Dutchwomen were outshot 31-18. 
 
The Dutchwomen return to home ice on December 3rd when they will host RPI at 7 pm.
