Dutchmen lose to #6 Middlebury, 64-52

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Andrew Locke scored 17 points and blocked seven shots to lead #6 Middlebury to a 64-52 men's basketball win at Union College's Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improved to 6-0 for the season while the Dutchmen now stand 2-1.

Jamal Davis, Ryan Wholey and Joey Kizel scored eight points each, while Sharry had a game high eight rebounds and Kizel dished out six assists. The Panthers shot 50% for the game and had a 45-31 rebounding advantage, while Union finished with a 26% shooting mark.

Justin Gallo led the Dutchmen with 13 points while Rusmir Dzanko tallied 10. Gallo, Matt Covucci and Keven Donohue each pulled down four rebounds. 

Union had a 26-25 lead at halftime but a jumper by Sharry 1:09 into the second half gave the Panthers a one point lead at 27-26. They held the lead throughout the rest of the half. It was 33-31 Middlebury with 14:09 left after a layup by Joe Mason, but Middlebury then went on a 17-5 run in the next 5:57 for a 50-36 lead with 8:12 left to play, the largest lead. They also led by 14 at 52-38 and Union never got closer then seven at 55-48 with 3:13 remaining.

The Dutchmen return to action on Thursday, December 9 when they play at Southern Vermont at 7 p.m.
