Robert Young netted a pair of goals and the Union College men's lacrosse team had seven different goal scorers in the team's 8-3 victory at Babson on Saturday. The win moves Union to 1-1, while Babson goes to 1-1.
Young tallied his first career goal at 12:36 of the third quarter, making it 7-2. After Babson's James Schmidt pulled it to 7-3 with 59 ticks remaining in the third, Young answered with his second tally at 6:31 of the third.
Senior
Andrew Higgins opened the scoring with an assist from Young at 9:53 of the first. Babson's Paul Grip evened it up at 5:40, but a man-up tally by junior
Brendan Kinnane gave Union the only lead it would need with 2:03 remaining in the opening quarter.
Freshman
Joe Cordrey (13:28), junior
Derek Mayer (7:42), sophomore Ethan Mayer (4:44) and sophomore
Ted McKenna (00:20) each registered goals in the second, giving Union a 6-2 advantage at the half. McKenna finished the game with a game-high four points with a goal and three assists.
Young begin the scoring in the third and the Beavers started to make a push with less than five minutes remaining. Goals from Thomas Mallon and Alexander Patinkin made it 8-5 with 2:05 remaining.
With Babson outshooting Union, 38-26, sophomore
Sean Aaron made 13 stops for his first victory of the season.
The Dutchmen return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 10 with a 4 p.m. home game against Ithaca at Frank Bailey Field.
