The Union College volleyball team won two matches on Friday night at the Union Invitational. In the first matchup, Union came back to beat Hartwick 3-1. They finished the nightcap with a 3-0 victory over Sage. The Dutchwomen improved to 4-4 on the season.
Against Hartwick, the Hawks prevailed early using a 15-6 run to finish the first game after being tied at 11.
The Hawks then opened the second game with a 9-3 before Union used a run of its own to get the score tied at 13 off a
Genna Wilson kill. In total, Union used a 13-4 run to take the lead at 19-14. Union eventually earned the second game 25-22 in a close battle back-and-forth battle.
The Dutchwomen took control of the third game, never trailing and battling past a few ties to win 25-20 and take an advantage in the match 2-1.
In the fourth and final game of the match, Union fought back from being down early to control the game and take it 25-20, beating Hartwick 3-1.
In its second match of the night, Union played Sage, who they previously beat this season 3-0. The outcome would remain the same, with Union overcoming a slow start in the first game to dominate to a 3-0 win.
The Dtuchwomen took the first game 25-20 followed by the second, 25-18. They opened the third game with a 6-0 run which paced Union for a 25-11 win to take the match. In the final game freshman
Rebecca Knepple had two big kills down each line back-to-back to give Union the 8-4 advantage. Classmate
Casey Tepper later killed a ball to the back line to put her team up 14-7.
Kim Armstrong got into the action with an ace to put Union up 19-8.
Union College will return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. for the second day of the Union Invitational against SUNY Oswego. The Dutchwomen will also play at 2 p.m. against SUNY Cortland.
