Volleyball gets two wins in first day of Union Invitational

The Union College volleyball team won two matches on Friday night at the Union Invitational. In the first matchup, Union came back to beat Hartwick 3-1. They finished the nightcap with a 3-0 victory over Sage. The Dutchwomen improved to 4-4 on the season.
 
Against Hartwick, the Hawks prevailed early using a 15-6 run to finish the first game after being tied at 11.
 
The Hawks then opened the second game with a 9-3 before Union used a run of its own to get the score tied at 13 off a Genna Wilson kill. In total, Union used a 13-4 run to take the lead at 19-14. Union eventually earned the second game 25-22 in a close battle back-and-forth battle.
 
The Dutchwomen took control of the third game, never trailing and battling past a few ties to win 25-20 and take an advantage in the match 2-1.
 
In the fourth and final game of the match, Union fought back from being down early to control the game and take it 25-20, beating Hartwick 3-1.
 
In its second match of the night, Union played Sage, who they previously beat this season 3-0. The outcome would remain the same, with Union overcoming a slow start in the first game to dominate to a 3-0 win.
 
The Dtuchwomen took the first game 25-20 followed by the second, 25-18. They opened the third game with a 6-0 run which paced Union for a 25-11 win to take the match. In the final game freshman Rebecca Knepple had two big kills down each line back-to-back to give Union the 8-4 advantage. Classmate Casey Tepper later killed a ball to the back line to put her team up 14-7. Kim Armstrong got into the action with an ace to put Union up 19-8.
 
Union College will return to action tomorrow at 12 p.m. for the second day of the Union Invitational against SUNY Oswego. The Dutchwomen will also play at 2 p.m. against SUNY Cortland.
