SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Katie McLean and freshman midfielder Jackie Trevisani each scored twice to lead the women's soccer team to a 7-0 win over Mount Holyoke College.
With the win, the Dutchwomen improved to 7-2 (1-1 Liberty League) on the season while the Lyons fell to 0-6-1 on the year.
The game remained scoreless for the first 18 minutes of play until Union scored four goals in 5:07 to break the contest open.
With Union maintaining pressure in the Lyons' zone, freshman forward Melissa Mansfield fired a low cross through the box to sophomore midfielder Michaela Katz, who finished with a low shot into the net for a 1-0 advantage at 18:52.
At 20:04, junior forward Jessica Strang drew a penalty kick on a trip in the box, setting up a penalty kick goal for sophomore forward Jennifer Mansfield, her team-leading sixth score of the season.
At 22:09, after a Union corner kick into traffic, Strang tipped the ball to McLean, who fired into an open net for a 3-0 Union lead.
Union struck again at 23:59, when Strang redirected a shot from outside the eighteen yard box to McLean, who scored her fourth goal of the season.
Trevisani would register her first goal of the season later in the first half, controlling a long cross from junior midfielder Samantha Guidon and scoring on a breakaway at 38:19.
Union took a 6-0 lead into the half with another tally from Trevisani at 40:31, who fired a long shot from the wing over the goalkeeper for her second goal of the game.
Freshman defender Meghan Cole scored in the second half for the Dutchwomen at 62:09, corralling a pass from sophomore midfielder Shelby Marks at penalty stripe and firing the ball into the net.
The Dutchwomen outshot Mount Holyoke 23-5 for the contest. Senior goalkeeper Elaine Harvey made four saves for the Lyons.
Union will next take on SUNY Fredonia in a road contest on Oct. 2 at 1:00 p.m.
