SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard Travis Jones scored 12 points and senior guard DJ Blakemore added 10 to lift Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to a 65-58 Liberty League men's basketball win over the host school Union College Friday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Engineers are now 4-2 in the league and 10-6 overall while the Dutchmen fell to 8-9 and 0-6 in league play.
Blakemore, Joens and Andrew Darst had five rebounds each for the Engineers, who shot 38% and had 10 steals while forcing 19 turnovers.
Union was led by 
Drew Goldstein and 
Evan Croll, who each scored 12 points. 
Matt Covucci pulled down a a game high 11 rebounds with seven points and 
Keven Donohue dished out four assists. The Dutchmen had a 39-36 rebounding advantage while shooting 41% for the night.
RPI had a 35-33 lead at the half. The Dutchmen led by two with 10:21 left at 49-47 after a Dzanko layup. But RPI went on a 13-5 run in the next 6:55 for a six point advantage of 60-54 after a jumper by Joe Gibbons. Blakemore feuled the run with four made free throws. Union got to within three at 61-58 with 1:21 left on a Covucci layup, but Blakemore made two of the four free throws in the final seconds to seal the triumph.
Union entertains Vassar Saturday at 4 p.m. while RPI is at Skidmore at 4 p.m.
