SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard
Drew Goldstein scored a career high 30 points in leading the Union College men's basketball team to an 84-48 Liberty League win over Vassar College Saturday afternoon at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchmen won for the first time in seven league games and evened the overall record to 9-9 while the Brewers fell to 1-6 in the league and 3-15 overall.
Goldstein made 11 of 15 shots from the floor and four of four from the line. He also had seven rebounds.
Keven Donohue scored 11 points and had a game high nine rebounds while
Evan Croll and Keith Callies each tallied nine points with six rebounds. Union shot 44% and had only eight turnovers while 13 Dutchmen saw action in the triumph. Union held Vassar to 33% shooting for the game.
The Dutchmen dominated the boards in the contest, with a season high 51 rebounds while allowing only 22 by Vassar. Union had 29 defensive rebounds.
Sophomore John Donnelly led all Brewers with 12 points and Sam Rappaport added seven. Evan Carberry and Elias Springer each had four rebounds.
The Dutchmen had a 24-11 lead 13:32 into the game, and led by as many as 20 in the first half at 38-18 with 30 seconds left. Union entered the locker room with a 17 point advantage, 38-21. Union went on a 23-10 run in the first 9:25 of the second half for a 63-30 advantage and led by as many as 38 (77-39 with 4:42 left).
Union hosts Skidmore Tuesday night, February 1 at 8 p.m., while Vassar resumes play on the road on Friday, February 4 at St. Lawrence at 8 p.m.
