Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY --
Union College senior Lauren McCormick scored her 1,000th career point on Senior Day but the Dutchwomen lost to St. Lawrence, 53-43 in the final regular season game for both teams Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center. With the loss, the Dutchwomen became the #3 seed and will face #2 seed William Smith next Friday at host St. Lawrence at 6 p.m. The Saints earned the top spot and will host #4 Vassar at 8 p.m. Saturday's championship game is at 3 p.m.

Union finished the regular season with a 14-8 record and 9-5 mark in the league. St. Lawrence improved to 19-5 and 10-4 in the league (tied with Wiliam Smith for the league record, but the Saints won the tie breaker).

McCormick made her second of two free throws with 10:24 remaining in the game to reach the milestone. She was the first to do so since Michelle Rogers joined the club in a game at RPI in February of 2009. The senior was honored prior to the game along with fellow senior tri-captains Lauren Hennessey and Leah Pepe. McCormick and Hennessey had six rebounds each and Pepe scored eight points. Freshman Brittney Kenney had a career best and game high 10 rebounds.

The Saints were led by Hannah Wilson, who scored 12 points. Katherine Edgerton just missed a double double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Erica Spera also added 10 points. Kelly Legg also just missed a double double of her own with nine boards joining her nine points.

The Saints used the strength of a tremendous first half for this victory. They had a 22-8 lead with 6:24 remaining in the first half and took a 26-16 lead into the half. They held the Dutchwomen to 24% shooting and had a 26-19 rebounding edge at halftime.

Union got to within four at 30-26 on a layup by Shayla Madden with 13:56 left. But the Saints went on a 19-8 run over the next 9:21 to put it away, with a 15 point lead at 49-34. The Saints shot 36% to the Dutchwomen's 30%, and finished with a 42-37 rebounding edge.

Union returns to the Liberty League tournament for the first time since 2009, when the Dutchwomen won the regular season title. This will be the eighth post-season in 10 years. Union was 1-1 against William Smith and Vassar and 0-2 against St. Lawrence in head to head play against the other tourney teams.
