SCHENECTADY, NY -- Rob Santangelo scored four goals to lead the Dutchmen lacrosse team to a 16-4 victory over visiting Manhatttanville on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. Union is now 2-1 while the Valiants fall to 1-2.
Mike Strauss led Manhattanvile with two goals.
Union had total control in the game as they led 11-0 going into the third period of play. The Valiants finally got on the board with 10:30 remaining in the third frame on a goal by Joe Daly. Manhattanville scored three times to make it 12-3 before DeBenedetto scored with one second remaining to make it 13-3 Union.
Sean Aaron started in goal for Union and made just one save in 19:35 of game time. He was relieved by Devyn Jeffries who played 32:49 and made six saves.
Stephen Melia came in the third period and did not record a save.
Dom Poletto had 14 saves for the Valiants.
The Dutchmen dominated in shots, 65-21. They collected 36 groundballs while the Valiants scooped up 20.
Manhattanville committed 11 penalties while Union was only whistled for five. The Dutchmen scored twice on the man-up opportunity.
Union returns to home field next Saturday when they take on Babson at 1 pm.
