SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union women's lacrosse team (9-7, 6-2 Liberty League), fell 14-6 to Hamilton (14-1, 7-0 Liberty League) on Senior Day at Frank Bailey Field.
Senior attack
Kristin Joyce scored three goals and senior midfielder
Melissa Hine added a goal and an assist to lead the Union attack.
Hamilton's Rachel Friedman scored seven goals and Sarah Bray added four goals to lead the Continentals' attack, which got rolling early against Union.
With the game tied 1-1 in the first half, Hamilton rattled off four consecutive goals, the last two by Friedman to take a 5-1 lead with 12:02 to play in the frame. The teams traded scores as Union's Joyce scored her first two of the game, and senior attack
Chelsea Charette added a score to cut Hamilton's lead to 8-4 with 1:24 remaining in the half.
But Hamilton regained momentum on Friedman's third goal of the game with three seconds to play.
The Continentals opened the second half with three consecutive goals to put the game out of reach. Friedman scored on a free position shot at 27:34, and just over ten minutes later, Bray added her fourth of the game at 17:09. Friedman scored on another free position shot at 11:01 to put Hamilton up 12-4.
After Hine and Joyce added goals at 9:57 and 8:45, Friedman scored her seventh of the game at 4:48, her fourth free position goal of the game. Hamilton's Ashley Allen closed out the scoring at 1:07.
Union goaltender
Alexis Deeb made five saves while Hamilton's Dewi Caswell stopped nine shots. Both teams had 23 shots for the game, while Hamilton had a 13-12 edge on groundballs.
Union will travel to Hamilton College and will face either Skidmore or RPI in the Liberty League Semifinals on Saturday, May 6.
