No. 2 Union defeats No. 3 Clarkson, 9-8, in Liberty League Semifinals

– Union freshman midfielder Jonathan Andrews scored three goals, including the game-winner, to lead men's lacrosse to a 9-8 win against No. 3 seed Clarkson (8-7) in a Liberty League semifinal contest at Frank Bailey Field.
 
Junior goaltender Sean Aaron made nine saves, including a stop in the final seconds to help No. 2 Union hold off a late rally by the visiting Golden Knights.
 
Union will host No. 4 seed Rensselaer on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. for the Liberty League Championship after the Engineers' upset 13-12 overtime victory at No. 1 Skidmore in another semifinal contest this afternoon.
 
Trailing 4-2 at the half, the Dutchmen (11-4) scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter to take the lead for good. In a five minute span starting at 13:09, junior attack Ted McKenna, Andrews, freshman attack Nate Greenberg, and sophomore midfielder Peter Griesinger scored to give Union a 6-4 lead.
 
After Clarkson's Tyler Long scored at 3:16 to cut Union's lead to one goal, McKenna struck with six seconds left in the third quarter, and sophomore midfielder Kyle Christine added another at 12:35 of the fourth to push Union's lead to three.
 
Clarkson mounted a late run, receiving a man-up goal from John Devine at 12:08, and another strike from Matt McCabe at 10:57 to cut the lead to 10:57. Andrews scored his third of the game at 10:10, but Clarkson's Jeff Sciera scored with 7:35 remaining to set up a frantic finish.
 
Aaron came up with a key save with two seconds left in the contest, stopping a sharp angle shot from Clarkson's McCabe to seal the victory.
 
The Golden Knights led 2-0 after the first quarter on goals from Cody Kilcoyne and Brendon Shearin. Sciera scored at 8:26 of the second quarter to push Clarkson's lead to 3-0 before Andrews' first goal of the game at 6:09. Clarkson's Tyler Long scored at 5:33 before Union's Christine scored at 1:51 to give the Dutchmen some momentum heading into the half.
 
Clarkson outshot Union 36-29 for the contest and held a 17-23 advantage on ground balls. Clarkson's Ryan Cole stopped nine shots in the loss.
