SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's soccer team used two second-half goals to defeat Cazenovia 3-1, in their season opener at College Park.
Junior forward Sebastiaan Jansen scored the game winner just over two minutes into the second half. At the 47:23 mark, Jansen fired a shot from 30 yards out inside the near post to break a 1-1 tie.
Senior midfielder Tim Pryor scored at 68:06 from outside the 18 yard box to put Union ahead 3-1.
In the first half, senior forward Marc Zeyak got the Dutchmen on the scoreboard at the 18:03 mark, taking a pass inside the six yard box from Sebastiaan Jansen and beating Cazenovia goalkeeper Riley Bittaglini between the legs for a 1-0 Union lead.
Cazenovia answered just 19 seconds later, as Taras Stashkiv fired a half volley past Mike Szcesniak at the 18:22 mark to even the score at 1-1.
For the contest, Union outshot Cazenovia 20-7, including a 10-2 advantage in the second half. Union goalkeepers Mike Sczesniak and Adam Margulies combined for two saves, while Cazenovia's Riley Battaglini made 10 stops.
The Dutchmen will take on Worcester State tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. at College Park.
