Box Score

ROCHESTER, NY -- Jessica Strang scored two goals to lead the Union College women's soccer team to a season opening 4-0 win over #13 SUNY Oneonta at the Rachael Miller Tournament at the Rochester Institute of Technology Friday.

The Dutchwomen defeated a Red Dragons program that made the final 16 of the NCAA Div. III tournament last season, and Oneonta has gone to the NCAA tourney 12 straight years.

It was Union's first win over the Red Dragons since September 16, 1997 in a game played at Union.
Melissa Mansfield had a goal and an assist and Michaela Katz also scored for Union, while Mia Simone made six saves in the net. Amy Lusby stopped four for the Red Dragons, who outshot the Dutchwomen, 13-11. Union had a 5-3 advantage in corners.

Mansfield scored the first goal of the season 9:15 into the contest, with an assist from Mary Donohue. Mansfield fed Strang at the 52 minute mark and just 7:49 later, Strang notched her second of the day for a 3-0 lead. Katz scored on an unassisted tally at 64:18 to produce the eventual 4-0 final.

Union faces Penn State Behrend to close out play in the tournament Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at RIT.
