Donohue deals Bard a 77-53 league defeat



SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior Keven Donohue scored 21 points with nine rebounds and also added five assists and the Union men's basketball team improved to 9-4 overall with a 77-53 Liberty League win over Bard at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday. The Dutchmen improved to 2-3 in league play while the Raptors fell to 1-2 in the league and 3-8 overall.

Donohue made eight of 13 shots and seven of his boards came on the defensive end for the Dutchmen, who also got 12 points each from Rusmir Dzanko and Terell Winney. Evan Croll and Joe Mason scored eight each, and Union shot 55% including 61% in the second half (14-23). Union had a 41-23 rebounding advantage over Bard.

The Raptors were led by Francis Arnold's 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Matt Shubert's 13 points and three steals. Bard shot 35% for the game.

When Frank Stortini made a three pointer with 12:22 left in the first, Bard had a 15-14 lead. But that was the final lead of the night for the guests as the hosts went on a 19-7 run in 8:08 for a 33-22 lead with 4:15 left in the half. Croll hit two three pointers in the run.Union had a 40-29 lead at the half and the bench outscored Bard, 12-0 in the period. The Dutchmen led by as many as 27 at 66-39 with 9:05 remaining.

The Dutchmen, winners of two straight after a three game losing streak, are on the road for Liberty League games next weekend at Clarkson Friday and St. Lawrence Saturday.
