SCHENECTADY, NY -- Shayla Madden scored 21 points and Rachel Beaulac and Kate Thompson each added 12 with 12 rebounds as the Union College women's basketball team defeated Skidmore College, 59-49 in overtime in a Liberty League game at the Viniar Athletic Center Friday night. The Dutchwomen are now 8-9 overall and 4-5 in the league, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 11-5 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Thompson had her first career double double and posted career highs in points and rebounds for Union, which also had four assists each from Brittney Kenney and Mary Donohue. Union shot 38% and held Skidmore to 24% shooting. Union's defense held Skidmore to 0 for 7 shooting in the overtime.

Skidmore was led by Christina Gargiso, who matched Madden with 21 points. Senior Megan Gaugler had eight points, getting her eighth on a free throw with 4:18 left in regulation. That made her the 12th Thoroughbred in program history to record 1,000 points.

Union stormed out to a 25-12 halftime lead. The Dutchwomen led by 17 after a Thompson free throw with 17:12 left in the second half, the largest lead, and led by 10 with 5:40 left at 39-29. But the guests chipped away and went on a 14-4 run, tying the contest with 41 seconds left on a free throw by Jordyn Wartts. Union had a shot to take the lead with two free throws with 41 seconds left but did not convert and the contest went to the extra session.

It was all Union in the overtime, as the Dutchwomen jumped out to a six point lead with 2:24 left. Up 52-48 with 57 seconds remaining, the Dutchwomen closed out the contest with a 7-1 run featuring four points at the line by Beaulac.
