SCHENECTADY, NY – Union's offense headlined by Benjamin Goulb featured four different goal scorers in a 5-0 shutout against Clarkson Friday afternoon at College Park.

Prior to the start of the game, Union College Athletic Director Jim McLaughlin presented a plaque to Jeff Guinn, Head Men's Soccer Coach for breaking the program's wins record by a coach. Guinn's 149^th win against Bard broke Bob Magee's record on October 6, 2012 when the Dutchmen defeated Bard on the road 5-0.

Sebastiaan Jansen wasted no time getting on the board, as the striker was able to draw a penalty kick in the opening 10 minutes. Coming into this week, Jansen was ranked fourth in the nation in goals per game and points per game with 1.36 and 3.00 respectively. The striker was able to bury the kick from the mark to put the Dutchmen up by one.

Clarkson immediately was seeking an equalizer as Sam Abate and Kurt Knolle tested Union netminder Ryan Carter. However, Carter was there to make the stops to preserve the one-goal advantage. Jansen nearly struck again with a second goal but the ball struck the crossbar, Daniel Miller was there on the rebound but the shot went wide.

The Dutchmen were able to go up by two as Kevin Janson looped a corner kick into the crowd. After a Clarkson deflection, Jansen fought off a header that found Goulb who was able to bury the volley.

The Golden Knights tried to cut the deficit in half before the end of the first half with shots from Brian Buckner and Angelo DiFrancesco but were either blocked or saved by the Dutchmen defense.

Union's attack increased in the second half as Jansen, Jake Soodek and Nick Vozzella tested Saverino Spagnolo. The goalkeeper performed well to minimize the Dutchmen attack throughout the game. Eventually, Union was able to extend their lead when Sahr Nyuma served up a cross to Sam Hunter that was volleyed in for his second goal of the season. Approximately 10 minutes later, Will Poetzch tacked on another from a pass by Goulb to give the Dutchmen a four-goal lead with 18 minutes to go.

Moments later, Ben Goulb was able to add on to his points tally on the day with a second goal to extend the lead to five. Clarkson nearly was able to get on the board with a shot by Nate Crow but Andrew Rouff was there to ensure the shutout.

The Golden Knights were outshout 15-25 for the game and had a disadvantage in corner kicks 0-7. Spagnolo and Carter each had six saves in the effort while Rouff has one.

Union (9-3-0, 2-2) will be playing tomorrow as they take on Liberty League leader St. Lawrence at College Park beginning at 2:00 p.m. Clarkson (1-8-3, 1-3-1) will take on RPI in Troy, N.Y. at 2:00 p.m. as well.
