SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY — The Dutchwomen conclude their season as Union split their final two games of the regular season. Union was defeated by New Paltz in three sets (20-25, 17-25, 30-32) but defeated Southern Vermont in five sets (25-22, 25-19, 18-25, 23-25, 15-11) at the Skidmore Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Against New Paltz,
Rachel Wyman led the Dutchwomen with 11 kills and
Kelley White pitched in with eight of her own. Wyman also had three service aces in the loss against the Hawks.
Marissa Vollmer continued to lead the defense with 27 digs while
Lauren Woods had one solo block and three assists.
Michelle Jacobson paced the Hawks with 18 kills and 15 digs. Marissa King added 42 assists, 18 digs and four kills for New Paltz in the Hawk's win.
In the match against Southern Vermont, Wyman led the squad again with 15 kills and Woods contributed with 11 kills of her own and a solo block.
Rajpreet Dhaliwal had nine kills with zero errors in 22 attempts to hit .409 for the match. In addition, Dhaliwal assisted on four blocks and converted six service aces.
Nora Wood and
Kelley White tallied digs of 19 and 18 respectively in the five-set win.
For the Mountaineers, Danielle Healis had 12 kills and four blocks. Ashley Veliz contributed with 15 kills, two blocks and two aces in the five set loss. Carrie Baltazar added 50 assists, 11 digs and five kills for Southern Vermont.
Marissa Vollmer earned a mention on the all-tournament team for her performance at the Skidmore Invitational.
The Dutchwomen finish the season snapping an eight-game losing streak and compiling a 17-18 record on the year.
