Field hockey loses to RPI at home, 2-0

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior attack Alissa Peterson scored the first goal and assisted on the other to lead RPI to a 2-0 Liberty League victory at Union's Frank Bailey Field Saturday morning.

With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League, while the Dutchwomen now stand 3-7 overall and 1-4 in league play.

RPI had a 20-11 shot advantage, but Union had the first four shots of the contest. The Engineers had nine corners while the Dutchwomen recorded four corners. RPI goalkeeper Hanna Clough made five saves in her second shutout of the season while her counterpart, Union's Molly McCune, stopped 12 for the Dutchwomen.

Liana Viaggio gave the Engineers a 1-0 lead at 27:01. She took a pass from Peterson from the right of the net, and fired home her fifth score of the season from two yards out. Both teams had six shots on net in the first half, and RPI had three corners to Union's one.

At the 53:30 mark, Peterson added insurance for the Engineers. Sarah Krolus passed from the top of the circle and Peterson notched her fifth of the fall to the left of McCune from seven yards out.

McCune kept it close with three saves in the final three minutes.

Union is on the road for the next three games, starting tomorrow at Babson at 1 p.m.
