SCHENECTADY, NY -- Brittney Kenney scored a game high 19 points and
Shayla Madden added 14 to lead Union College to a 59-47 women's basketball win over William Smith College in a Liberty League game at the Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night.
The Dutchwomen improved to 6-7 in league play and 10-11 overall while the Herons now stand 7-5 in the league and 11-10 overall.
Kenney made six of seven free throws and had five rebounds, the same rebounding total as
Kristin Schmidt and
Amy Loya. Madden had six boards and
Rachel Beaulac led the Dutchwomen with eight rebounds. Union shot 37% for the contest.
Jacquelin Murphy had a double double for the Herons with a game high 17 rebounds, 13 on the defensive side, with her 10 points. Sasha Borenstein scored 12 points and the Herons were held to 29% shooting but had a 42-39 rebounding advantage.
Unoin led 25-20 at halftime, and led by as many as 13 at 40-27 with 10:49 left in the second half on a layup by Kenney. But the Herons went on a 9-0 run capped by a Chloe Hayter layup with 7:05 left to make it 40-36 Union lead. But the Dutchwomen got it back up to 11 with a run of 11-4 in a span of 6:04 for a 51-40 lead with 2:32 left to play. Union never trailed by nine in the final minutes.
The Dutchwomen are idle this weekend, and return to action on February 14 for a Liberty League game at RIT.
