Greenberg scores twice, but No. 11 men's lacrosse falls 10-6 at No. 8 RIT

  Sophomore attack Nate Greenberg had two goals and an assist, and Rob Santangelo added a goal and an assist but No. 11 Union men's lacrosse (8-3, 3-1 Liberty League) fell 10-6 at No. 8 RIT (10-2, 3-1 Liberty League) at RIT Field.

Senior goalie Sean Aaron made 12 saves as both teams recorded 22 shots on goal in the contest. RIT goalie Anthony DeLeo made 16 saves in net for the Tigers.

With the game tied 5-5 late in the third quarter, RIT scored five unanswered goals to take control of the contest. With 2:33 to play in the third quarter, A.J. Tingle started the run, picking up a ground ball and scoring from just outside the circle to give RIT a 6-5 lead.

RIT's Jordan Collins-Hartwig, who scored six of the Tigers' nine second half goals, added three goals in the fourth quarter, capping off the run with a man-up goal with 4:59 to play to put the Tigers up 10-5.

Greenberg scored from a wide angle on a man-up opportunity with 3:48 to play to end the run, but Union would get no closer.

The Dutchmen led 2-1 in the half, with both teams playing tight defensively in the opening stages of the contest. Senior attack Ted McKenna and Greenberg each had point blank chances stopped by DeLeo early in the first quarter. Aaron made one of his best saves of the contest on Brendan MacDonald with 7:50 to play in the opening quarter.

The scoreless tie was broken early in the second quarter, as Santangelo got Union on the scoreboard at the 12:25 mark, beating DeLeo with a low shot to put Union up 1-0.

RIT evened the score with 10:04 to play in the half when freshman midfielder Alastair Warren scored on a bounce shot. Greenberg gave the Dutchmen the lead heading into halftime on a nice setup by senior midfielder Ethan Meyer.

Meyer cut behind the net and found Greenberg alone in front with a pass, and Greenberg finished with a low bounce shot with 5:46 to play in the half.

Play opened up in the second half, with four ties and one lead change in a third quarter that saw the Tigers gain a 6-5 lead.

Collins-Hartwig scored the first of three goals in the quarter on the Tigers' first possession of the second half, just 44 seconds in. Union's Nolan Connors answered with 10:55 to go in the quarter help Union regain the lead.

Collins-Hartwig scored on a man-up opportunity at the 8:32 mark, and added another goal on RIT's next possession of the quarter at 7:36 to give RIT its first lead of the game.

Sophomore midfielder Jonathan Andrews tied the game at 4-4 midway through the third quarter on a bounce shot from long range. After RIT's Alex Crepinsik scored at 4:11, freshman attack Adam Rosenthal scored on a high shot into the upper corner from 15 yards out to even the game at 5-5. But Tingle started the decisive run to give the Tigers the edge heading into the final quarter of play.

Union will take on Vassar on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. as the Dutchmen will honor 10 seniors on Senior Night at Frank Bailey Field.
