ROCHESTER, NY- Kelsey Fish scored the lone goal on a header in the 62nd minute to lead No. 19 Union College to a 1-0 victory of the University of Rochester in a women's soccer matchup Saturday afternoon.
Fish scored after Union (6-0) was awarded a corner kick which was taken by sophomore
Mollie Gilchrist. The ball came in from the right corner out to Fish who headed the ball into a crowded front of the net where Mellissa Mansfield and Rochester goalkeeper Bridget Lang were battling. The ball just sneaked past the goal line before Lang could make a play on it.
Rochester (1-5) got plenty of chances from senior Christine Keck who looked to score the equalizer in the 84th minute, but Fish was there to sweep the ball off the goal line and keep the Yellowjackets off the board.
Union held the advantage in corners 4-3. Rochester shots found the net six times to Unions four. In the goals, Lang made three saves in a losing effort.
Kayla Marti improved to 6-0 on the season making six saves. It was her third solo shutout on the year.
Union will open up Liberty League play at home against Skidmore next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at College Park.
