Hawks rally past Dutchwomen in a 2-1 defeat

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Caroline Moran scores her fourth goal of the season as the Dutchwomen fall to New Paltz 2-1 at Frank Bailey Field Wednesday afternoon.

After both teams were even in the first half, Alicia Aragosa was able to score her fifth goal of the season to give the Hawks their fifth win of the season.

The Dutchwomen (2-5) outshot New Paltz (5-3) 12-3 in the first half. However, New Paltz held a 13-6 advantage in the second half. Union was able to earn more corners as the Dutchwomen took 12 to the Hawks four.

New Paltz had a great chance 3:58 into the game, with a drive that was kicked aside on the left foot by McCune.

The Dutchwomen opened the scoring with 22:49 left in the first half. Hannah Najar took a corner from the right of the New Paltz net and fed Moran, who blasted home her fourth of the season from straight out 10 yards in front.

Nicole Merigliano had a chance on the right crease with 10:07 left but her backhand lifter was stopped by Pjetri's right pad.

The Hawks were able to level the score with 2:52 remaining in the half as Danielle Conklin set-up Jessica Caruana from the corner to earn her second goal of the 2012 campaign.

Entering the second half, Pjetri was tested right away as Moran cracked a shot to the right side of the net. The goaltender however was able to make a great kick save to keep the score at one.

After an issued yellow card to Laura Pacheco, Union goalie Molly McCune made a critical stop while the Hawks were on the man-advantage.

New Paltz created another opportunity and was able to score as Aragosa scored her team-leading fifth goal from a Conklin pass to give the Hawks a late lead.

Union was able to earn another corner as Najar and Moran tried to repeat what the duo did on their first goal. Moran's shot found the back of the net but was called back for being too high. The Hawks were able to possess the ball as time expired.

Union is back home at Frank Bailey Field Saturday at 2 p.m. to host Liberty League rival William Smith.
