HANOVER, N.H. – Shenae Lundberg tallied 18 saves but the Dutchwomen offense was kept scoreless as Dartmouth (12-5-2, 7-4-1 ECAC) came away with a 3-0 victory at Thompson Arena Friday night.
Union (7-13-3, 0-8-3 ECAC) nearly capitalized on their first chance on goal as
Jessica Kaminsky fired a shot on net from the left slot. The puck got by Lindsay Holdcroft but found the left post.
Dartmouth's offense was contained in the first five minutes as Union kept the Big Green shots at bay. However, Dartmouth was scored on a flurry of goals midway through the first.
After Union killing a penalty earlier in the period, Dartmouth was awarded their second power play on a checking call by
Rebecca Babiak. Regan Fischer took a pass by Camille Dumais from the top of the offensive third and found the corner as Dartmouth struck first. Moments later, the Big Green doubled their lead with another goal by Fischer. The center was freed up in the middle as Dumais and Laura Stacey set up the captain for her second of the game. Jenna Hobeika tallied another goal late in the period as she was on the receiving end of a wraparound pass by Dumais to put Union behind 0-3.
The Union defense settled in the second period as they limited the Dartmouth forwards to just six shots in the period. Lundberg denied a few scoring chances as she kept the Dartmouth lead to three. Additionally, the Big Green conceded three power plays, giving Union a chance to inch back in the contest.
Kathryn Tomaselli was on the doorstep for a pair of chances in the period but both her chances went wide to the left.
Stefanie Thomson also had a chance near the crease but Holdcroft denied the scoring chance as Dartmouth escaped without surrendering a goal.
Dartmouth conceded two more penalties in the third period, pushing up the penalty minutes to 12 for the Big Green on the night. However, Union could not get one through as Holdcroft kept the Dutchwomen off the scoring sheet.
Kelly McGrath and Thomson had their chances but Holdcroft and the Dartmouth penalty kill unit endured the power play. Lundberg continued to keep the score at 3-0, denying chances in front by Karlee Odland and Catherine Berghuis, tallying 18 saves on the night. Despite surrendering six penalties, Dartmouth came away with the 3-0 victory.
Holdcroft improves to 11-4-2 and earns her second shutout on the season, making 16 saves in the win. Lundberg was given the loss and drops to 6-10-3.
Union was 0-for-6 on the power play while Dartmouth was 1-4 on the man-advantage.
The Dutchwomen will take on No. 2/3 Harvard (15-1-1, 12-0-0 ECAC) tomorrow at Bright Hockey Center starting at 4:00 p.m. The Big Green will take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-15-2, 4-7-0 ECAC) tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. as well.
