WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The Union College women's volleyball team fell to Williams College in straight sets, 3-0, to fall to 11-4 on the season.
Williams started strong in the first set with Claire Miller making the first kill. Williams went on a short streak at the beginning of the game with kills by Tori Jasuta and Raea Rassmussen. The Dutchwomen then caught up to tie the set at 5-5. Williams battled back and forth with Union with kills by Emily Doll and Katherine Lane. At 11-10 Ryan Farley started serving and went on a streak of 12 serves to eventually bring to score to 21-10. The set was ended at 25-11 Williams.
In the second set Williams had another quick start with kills by Miller and an ace by Emily O'Day. Williams gained a lead by six points, but Union fought back to tie the game at 9-9. Williams and Union battled a little longer until the Ephs pulled ahead to 18-13. Williams went on a run of points with kills by Doll, Jasuta, Rassmussen, Miller, and Lane to end the set 25-19.
Williams had a slightly slower start in the third set, and found themselves down 2-4. Jasuta helped the team regain their lead and bring the score 10-7. Williams then gained a few more points with a block by Lane, kills by Miller and Doll, and an ace by Farley. Williams had a solid lead of 20-16, but Union fought back to make the score 23-21. Another kill by Rassmussen, and a final kill by Doll ended the game at 25-22 Williams.
Sophomore Rachel Wyman lead the Dutchwomen in kills with 9. Senior Marissa Vollmer led the team in digs with 23 and freshman Amanda Price led the team in assists with 14.
The Dutchwomen look to get back to their winning ways with two matches on Friday. They travel to Annadale-On-Hudson for two Liberty League matches against Bard (4 pm) and St. Lawrence (6 pm).
