SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's soccer team defeated Western Connecticut 2-0 on an overcast afternoon at the Turf at College Park. With the win Union improves to 11-2-1 while the loss drops Western Connecticut to 2-10-2 for the season.
The Dutchmen's leading scorer, sophomore
Carl Faber, recorded his ninth goal of the season to give the Dutchmen a lead in the first half. After beating two defenders on a long pass from midfield, Faber took a shot that rung the right post. Faber then collected his own rebound and rifled a shot to the top left corner of the net. The goal was unassisted at the 32:21 mark of the first half.
The Dutchmen dominated offensively in the first half by outshooting the Colonials 11-2, forcing Colonials goaltender Bobby Strevel to make one save.
The Dutchmen continued to press offensively in the second half, but Strevel made several impressive saves down the stretch to keep the score close until the final minute. The Dutchmen attempted 10 shots on goal before Faber added his second goal of the game with only 34 seconds remaining in the half to give the Dutchmen their 2-0 lead. Strevel finished the match with three saves, giving his team a chance to stay in the game down the stretch.

Ryan Carter tallied four saves to record his fifth shutout of the season and improve his record to 11-2-1.
The Dutchmen return to action on Oct. 26 when they travel to Rochester for a Liberty League match against RIT at 2:00.
