POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Lauren Wiebe scored two goals to lead Vassar College to a 2-0 victory over visiting Union College in a Liberty League field hockey game Saturday.
The Brewers improved to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the league. The Dutchwomen fell to 4-11 for the season and 1-4 in league play.
Maggie Brells made two saves in the shutout win, while Union's
Molly McCune stopped six.
Wiebe opened the scoring at 13:42 of the game, when she redirected a pass from Anna Schroeder from 20 yards out. Wiebe's second of the day and 11th of the season came at 16:11. Lauren Shumate took the corner and Anna Schroeder passed it over to Wiebe for the shot.
Vassar had an 11-5 advantage in shots and 10-5 in penalty corners for the contest.
Union will be idle until Saturday, October 26 when the Dutchwomen close out the Liberty League portion of the schedule with a game at RPI at 2 p.m. The home finale, and Senior Day, is on October 30 against Morrisville State at Frank Bailey Field at 4 p.m.
