SCHENECTADY, NY -- Sophomore forward Jessica Ott scored a goal with two assists and senior forward Hillary Carlson scored twice to lead Hartwick College to a 4-2 field hockey win over Union College at Frank Bailey Field Tuesday afternoon. Hartwick improved to 4-8 on the year while Union fell to 3-8 after the non-league contest.
Hartwick goalkeeper Shannon Carter made 15 saves as Union outshot Hartwick, 24-14.
Molly McCune made eight stops for the Dutchwomen. Hartwick had a 10-8 advantage in corners.
Union opened the scoring with Maggie Ferrari's second goal of the season. She was fed in front from
Nicole Merigliano close to the right of the goal just 53 seconds into the contest. But Hartwick tied it up at 3:36. Katie Monbaron sent a pass from the far right side to Hillary Carlson, who tucked it in inside the left post for her second of the season.
Ott gave the Hawks the lead at 7:17. Off a corner, Kelly Kramer took the pass and found Ott five yards out for Ott's third of the year. The Hawks made it 3-1 on Carlson's second of the day at 18:48. Ott sent a pass through traffic to the left side and Carlson banged home the score from three yards out.
Ott sent a lead pass to Kramer, who shot it in from the middle, eight yards out for a 4-1 lead at 49:22. Union got back to within two on
Nicole Merigliano's seventh of the season at 54:31. She picked up a loose ball off a rebound just outside the crease.
Union has two Lilberty League home games on tap this weekend. The Dutchwomen host St. Lawrence Friday at 4 p.m. and Skidmore Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
