Kaminsky registers hat trick in 6-4 loss to Yale

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Jessica Kaminsky tallied her first career hat trick in a 6-4 loss to Yale on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. With the loss, the Dutchwomen drop to 2-4-0 in ECAC play and 5-9-0 overall.

Kaminsky's hat-trick is the first Union hat trick since 2006. In a game that saw each team tally three power play goals, all of Kaminsky's tallies came on the power play as the Dutchwomen went 3-6 on power play opportunities in the game. She tallied twice on power play feeds from senior captain Maddy Norton, who recorded three assists on the afternoon.

The first period ended in a 1-1 tie after Kaminsky's first goal. Towards the end of the period the Dutchwomen were awarded a five minute power play as Yale defenseman Abby Gahm received a major and game misconduct for checking Norton from behind. The Dutchwomen were unable to capitalize on the five-minute man advantage.

The second period saw four goals as the team's swapped lead changes twice. The Dutchwomen opened up the period by taking a 2-1 lead on senior forward Stefanie Thomson's second goal of the season. Thomson's tally pushes her within three goals of cracking the top-five all-time Dutchwomen goal scorers.
The Dutchwomen's lead was short lived as the Bulldogs tallied just 13 seconds later when Hanna Astrom tapped in a loose puck around the crease. Phoebe Staenz and Tara Tomimoto tallied assists on the play.

The physical play continued into the end of the second period as senior forward Mac Purvis received a major penalty and game misconduct for checking from behind. Unlike Union, Yale used the major penalty to take a 4-2 lead before the end of the second period. Jamie Haddad and Kate Martini tallied 13 seconds apart on the man advantage to take the two goal lead into the third period.

Martini tallied again in the power play a little over two minutes into the third period.

The Dutchwomen didn't take long to respond as they began their comeback attempt. The Dutchwomen drew two penalties within a minute of each other. Kaminsky tallied twice in a little over a minute to bring the Dutchwomen to within one goal.

Union continued to pressure throughout the third period but was unable to tie the game in the final moments. The Dutchwomen pulled junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg with a little over a minute remaining. Haddad added her second goal of the game on the empty netter to put an end to the Dutchwomen's comeback attempt.

Yale goaltender Jaimie Leonoff earned her second victory of the season after tallying 17 saves while Lundberg finished the game with 16 saves.

The Dutchwomen take a few weeks off before returning to action on the road against Quinnipiac and Princeton on December 6 and 7.
