PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The Union College Dutchwomen earned their third victory of the season in a 69-61 decision over Ramapo on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament.
With the win the Dutchwomen improve to 3-1 on the season and will play host St. John Fisher in the championship game tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Senior guard
Amy Loya led the Dutchwomen attack with 14 points while
Cailin Schmeer tallied 13 points. Senior forward
Kristin Schmidt dominated on the boards, leading both teams with 11 total rebounds. Schmeer was also a force on the defensive side of the ball, registering three steals.
Union shot 20-51 (39.2 %) from the field for the game narrowly edging Ramapo who went 21-55 (38.2%) from the field. The Dutchwomen also outshot the roadrunners from beyond the arc, connecting on five of their 14 attempts. Ramapo was only able to muster two three pointers in the entire game.
The Dutchwomen led the Roadrunners 38-19 heading into halftime, after shooting 46.4% from the field in the first half.
